Welcome to the Retreat
Let the Adventure Begin
Zimbell House Publishing is holding open submissions for short stories about going on a retreat. These tales can be about a couples retreat, a company retreat, a private getaway, or even a writing retreat. The entire short story must take place at the retreat itself, no going off the grounds. The characters don't have to be tied to only quests, let the staff get involved in the story, it can even be from a staffer's POV. Is this a fancy hotel? A private home? A series of villas? Where is the retreat located? How long is the retreat? What services do they offer? Does someone die? Fall in love? Find self-fulfillment? What is the purpose of the retreat? Is for introspection? To get work done? To bond with co-workers?
Show our readers what's happening rather than telling, by this we mean don't bog down your story with too much narrative.
We want 'em all, short-stories to novellas, that feature these questions and more. Let's have some fun with the characters. We want fully developed characters with plots that capture the imagination.
Submissions of both short stories and novellas to this anthology are welcome, please keep in mind the minimum word count is 4,000 and the maximum word count is 20,000. We will not read submissions under the stated minimum word count.
